My work is gonna enroll in a new insurance program that will pay 75% for the laser eye surgery. Needless to say, I'm jumping all over this. My question is has anybody gotten this operation done before and how long can I expect to be out? I basically work in front a computer (like most of us) and I'm thinking the doc will tell me to stay away from comps...

Are you having LASIK? Recovery is pretty quick. I haven't had the surgery myself but I know several people who have...only one bad experience reported. I can't believe your insurance covers this type of surgery...that's great.

75%, . Sounds like a generous company you work for. I keep waiting and hoping for the day my insurance pays for it.:suomi:

Yea. When I first took this job, they told me they'll take of my insurance so I shouldnt worry about it. Now, this company is family owned and is a sm/mid size company (about 70 employees) but they never took a penny out of my pay for insurance. I still have to pay that 10 dollar co-pay but thats nothin. The only time I have to pay for insurance is for my spouse or my children. Considering I dont have either..I'm loving it. Now their switching their HR and insurance programs and supposedly, we're gonna get better coverages.

How long did the operation take? Am I gonna need someone to drive me home after the operation?

I would recommend Lasik surgery to anyone. Its the best thing ive ever done. You can get it done for $1000 now which is ridiculously cheap.

The actual procedure itself only take a few minutes, but they will have you hang around the office for 30 mins to an hour to administer eyedrops and check things out. I caught the streetcar home after the procedure, and aside from slightly blurred vision ( very slight ) and a tiny headache I was fine, and the next day my vision was perfect.

If you can get Lasik for under $500 with your insurance then you would be crazy not to.

Almost a year ago I had Lasik in one eye and PRK in the other (because the cornea was too thin). The recovery time on the PRK was much longer and more painful, but the results on both are great. Only downside is some lingering glare from lights in the dark (nighttime drivivng), though it seems to be getting better. But I'd do it all again for sure and I spent a lot more than you will. I see better than I ever did with glasses or contacts.

Lasik recovery is literally only like 1-2 days; PRK was really like 5-7 days. But do plan to rest up for at least a couple days.
